As Romania's national football team convened for the last matches in the EURO 2008 preliminaries, team captain Cristian Chivu said that he is used to the atmosphere in Italy, where he usually plays and which got particularly tense recently after the killing of an Italian woman by a Romanian Rroma (Gypsy) immigrant suspect.

"I've been in Italy for four years and I can say that it's been like this for all this time: sometimes I've been called a Gypsy, sometimes I was lauded...", he said.

Cristian Chivu, who plays for Inter, says the issue cannot be solved unless more involvement comes from governmental levels, "because in Romania there are a lot of Romanians who find it very hard to integrate there.
