The leader of Romania's biggest opposition party, the Social Democrats (PSD), addressed a letter to both President Traian Basescu and PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu on Tuesday urging the Supreme Defense Council (CSAT) to publicly describe the impact the US missile shield has on Romania's security interests.

PSD president Mircea Geoana also said official representatives should be named to inform the relevant commissions in the Parliament about all new information and evaluations about the missile shield.

The PSD leader says that the installation of the US missile shield on the territory of European states has provoked major debates and international reactions.

Romania's Supreme Defense Council convenes on Tuesday afternoon to evaluate the terrorism risks on Romania's national security considering that Romania will host a NATO summit in Bucharest in April 2008.
