"Europe - annoyed by the use of pesticides", French "Liberation" notes. The European Parliament adopted two law drafts that aim at diminishing the use of such substances, hazardous for the health.

Despite the measures already adopted, the use of pesticides didn't see any decrease during the past 10 years, the European Commission admits. Some 300,000 tons of pesticides are sold every year in the EU states.

France Presse informs that the list of the active substances - key ingredients of the pesticides - will be approved at an European level and the use will be authorized at a national level afterwards.

The use of new-generation substances may be approved for 10 years, while the low-risk substances will be approved for 15 years.

The new drafts forbids the spraying of pesticides in the atmosphere and their use near running waters, parks, sport arenas or medical facilities.
