Some 2000 people protested on the streets of Budapest asking for PM Ferenc Gyurcsany’s resignation on Monday night. During the protests, there were several violent clashed between the policemen and the protesters.

Some 20 people were arrested while 19 were injured in the incidents that took place as the PM was preparing to hold a public speech.

The police used helicopters and tear gas to disperse the demonstrators who attacked them with beer cans and whatever was at hand. Hir TV managed to broadcast live the whole manifestation.

Last night, both PM Gyurcsany and the President of Hungary took part at an Opera event celebrating 51 years from the 1956 revolution.

Protected by about 100 policemen, the PM managed to secure himself from the violence of the protesters who called him dictator.

By midnight, police forces managed to contain the manifestation.
