One of Romania's best known football teams, Steaua Bucharest has become the case study for the Spanish daily ABC. The newspaper reads that Steaua owner Gigi Becali, a businessman turned populist politician, has made Steaua mean much more than a football team.

"The team is caught between the decisions of the owner and the football they need to play", ABC writes.

The paper describes the dictatorial style of Gigi Becali in exemplifying the way he tried to impose several team configurations during Gheorghe Hagi’s short coaching period at Steaua this year.

ABC underlines that since firing the Romanian football icon, Gigi Becali has lost much of his popularity.

On the other hand, Becali is acknowledged for his generous donations, exemplified by a visit to Mount Athos where he donated some 350,000 euro for rebuilding monasteries.
