Romanian Agriculture minister Decebal Traian Remes submitted his resignation on Thursday, Romanian news agency NewsIn reports. The move comes shortly after a tape depicting him taking what prosecutors believe to be bribe was broadcast by the public television station TVR in prime time on Wednesday.

The tape depicted Remes taking an envelope from ex-Agriculture minister Ioan Avram Muresan. Prosecutors believe the envelope contained some 15,000 euro, part of a bribe passed to Remes from a businessman who wanted to be favored in public tenders.

Muresan dismissed the tape as forgery on Wednesday night.

A government press release issued on Thursday morning says Liberal PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu asked Remes to resign and the latter complied with the request.
