The Social Democratic Party (PSD) has finished its list of candidates for the European Parliament elections due late this fall, the PSD announced yesterday.

The list excludes two important names such as Victor Ponta or former Romania-EU accession negotiator Vasile Puscas, who were expected to run for seat in the EP.

The list includes Titus Corlatean, former spokesperson for the party, current leader of the PSD group in the EP Adrian Severin, Rovana Plumb and Daciana Sarbu, Victor Ponta's wife.

Victor Ponta said he withdrew out of personal reasons, adding that he wanted to fulfill his parliamentary mandate in Romania.

Vasile Puscas on the other hand said he dropped off the election challenge because the party lacked any strategy for the elections.

The European elections were due to take place in Romania in May this year but were postponed due to a political crisis that resulted in a referendum to impeach the president and a major government reshuffle.
