Senators rejected President Traian Basescu's call to reexamine a law boosting diplomat’s salaries on Tuesday. The Senators approved the proposed raise in salaries of the diplomats despite Basescu qualified the law as unfair.

The law rules an increase of the salaries by 85% to 186% for diplomatic and consular posts while for executive ones, salaries will grow by 186%-204%.

President Basescu asked the Government to specify the financing sources for the proposed raises.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Adrian Cioroianu indirectly answered the President by saying that the Economy and Finance Ministry issued an analysis in which it clearly identifies the sources. However, Cioroianu did not named them.
