The last head of spies in Russia, Vladimir Kruchkov, unveiled in a recent interview that the US managed to plant an interception device worth 220 million dollars in the secret communications tunnel in Southern Moscow, near Kremlin.
According to Komsomolskaia Pravda, the box, using technology "Russia only dreamed of", was discovered before functioning "at full capacity".
Vladimir Kruchkov became head of KGB in 1988. In 1991, he was one of the eight opponents of Gorbatchev.
In the same interview, Kruchkov says that all speculations about the way the former president Andropov died are simple fantasies and that there was no "minister's wife" with him in the elevator the night he died.
