One of the three Romanian citizens who attacked Italian movie director Giuseppe Tornatore in Rome escaped from the minors' detention center were he was under surveillance, Corriere della Sera reads in its Wednesday online edition. 17-year old Laurentiu Ciocarlan broke from jail after supplying the Police important information in the investigation.

On 21 August, three Romanian citizens, aged 34, 32 and 17, respectively, attacked and robbed Giuseppe Tornatore in Rome, stealing his mobile phone, wallet and watch. All three were arrested 10 days later, on August 31.

51-year old Tornatore won the Oscar for the best foreign movie in 1989, for "Cinema Paradiso".
