EC representatives visit Romania to audit the direct payment system on Monday, Doru Nechiti, general manager of the Agency for Interventions and Payments in Agriculture (APIA), has confirmed for HotNews.ro. Experts will be on the field, verifying the process in Mures and Cluj counties personally.

The audit will start in Targu Mures on Monday. The experts will verify the way in which controls are being handled by the Agency regarding the declared parcels of the peasants.

Doru Nechiti confirmed for HotNews.ro that the next county to undergo agriculture checks is Cluj.

The scope of the audit is extremely important considering that soon the EC should decide whether or not to reduce the planned budget for Romania agriculture assistance by 25%.

To avoid any budget reduction, the EC experts need to conclude that the process is functional. However, Nechiti said that this week’s audit is not decisive for this verdict.
