Romania's governing National Liberal Party, PNL, will announce its candidates for the European Parliament only after an Opposition-supported motion against the government will be voted in the Parliament. The party takes current ministers into consideration when setting up the list of candidates for the EP in case the government falls, the chief of campaign, Dan Motreanu, told HotNews.ro.

On the other hand, rumors regarding a possible withdrawal of the former Foreign Affairs Minister, Mihai Razvan Ungureanu, from the list of candidates have yet to be confirmed.

Motreanu says that the list will be totally different than the one announced in the spring due to the possibility that current Liberal ministers might be included on it.

However, Defense minister Theodor Melescanu said on Thursday that Mihai Razvan Unugureanu and several current ministers including incumbent Foreign minister Adrian Cioroianu are the greatest assets of the Liberal government.

Leaders of the Liberal party say that the former Foreign Affairs minister will miss the Permanent Delegation of the group meeting on Thursday and Friday in Neptun, a resort on the Black Sea coast.

According to some sources, Mihai Razvan Ungureanu is about to give up his candidacy. Melescanu added that in the last meeting he asked the selected ministers to confirm their candidacy.

It is the first time when an official PNL member suggests that Adrian Cioroianu could leave the Foreign Affairs Ministry in order to run for the European Parliament. The final lists will be announced on September 24 or 25 after the Parliament will vote on the censure motion announced by the Social Democratic Party.
