Romanian President Traian Basescu attends classes these days before a test of re-confirmation as ship commander at a naval training institute in the Black Sea city of Constanta, Romanian news agency NewsIn informs, quoting Constanta port sources. To renew his papers as ship commander, Basescu must go through an intensive training programme lasting several days before submitting a final test.

The Romanian head of state served as commander of Romania’s most renowned ship before the 1989 anti-communist revolution. He graduated the civilian shipping faculty of the Constanta Shipping Academy in 1976.

His current, five-year master’s certificate expires in September 2007.
