The scandal of the passports’ printing reached the highest level yet: the former Government’s Secretary General, Serban Mihailescu, was sent to court after the publishing of a report on the way contracts were signed.

The Governmental Control Authority says the legislation for public acquisition was broken and that the responsibility belongs to the members in the Commission which analyzed the offers.

The contract, worth 35.5 million euros, was signed in 2001 by the Nastase Cabinet and the German company Bundesdruckerei International Services, for the printing of European standards-complying passports.
