President Traian Basescu issued a press release on Wednesday "disapproving the lack of dignity shown by politicians who chose to claim their innocence by inventing conspiracies and accusing state institutions without having any grounds".

Basescu's reaction comes after the Constanta mayor, Radu Mazare, declared - also on Wednesday, that he was called to be heard by Anti-Graft prosecutors because Basescu "made a phone call".

The head of state says that politicians, regardless the party they represent, should have a dignified attitude in front of the law enforcement institutions and the Justice system, although they may find themselves in a difficult position, "probably generated by their own actions", the release reads.

Basescu is also glad that investigators and judges have no longer complexes in dealing with "the rich and powerful".

Controversial mayor Radu Mazare was announced he is indicted in a new file, for abuse in office.
