The Bucharest City Hall will launch a tender this week for a program aimed at localizing each tree of the city on a centralized map so that the green areas in the city, which are considerably below the EU average, can be improved.

That means every tree and bush in the city would be counted and monitored from now on according to a system that is already used in other cities in Europe.

Bucharest mayor Adriean Videanu said on Sunday that according to official data public authorities have evidence of 17.8 million square meters of green areas in Bucharest. But he said other areas, held by private owners, are not currently checked in a centralized manner.
