A serious fire sparked near the southern Croatian city of Dubrovnik several days ago has now reached the outskirts of the city. Authorities decreed a state of emergency Sunday to Monday night when sirens signaled fire threat in all quarters of the Medieval city, also known of the Pearl of the Adriatic. Local authorities said tourists have not been threatened so far.

The fire caught several abandoned houses. 26 wounded firefighters have been hospitalized, according to Croatian radio.

Over 250 firefighters and several hundreds local people have been fighting to put off the fire since Saturday. The fire was sparked in neighboring Bosnia.
