However, the Union needs a few more successful actions, in order to re-define its position in a reality that changes at fast pace. "It needs a purpose and an agenda", the article reads.

FT also draws attention towards the fact that the last 12 states that joined the EU represent a fifth of the Union's populace, but only a 15th of its Gross Product.
