Former Romania president Ion Iliescu will not face the military court in the file accusing him for the 1990 miners' mayhem in Bucharest. Iliescu's file will be sent to a civilian court, the military Justice handling only the cases of the former Interior Minister, Mihai Chitac and other three high-ranked officers in his institution.

In 1990, an anti-Communist demonstration was violently repressed with the aid of thousands of miners called for by Ion Iliescu. Several deaths and hundred of injured demonstrators added to the general destruction that followed the miners' intervention.

The Opposition political parties saw their headquarters vandalized.
