Romanian electricity company Electrica announced power cuts across many parts of Bucharest due to extreme heat on Monday. The extensive use of AC systems leads to a significant electricity consumption.

The company’s technical director Tudor Stefan told Realitatea TV news station that for Tuesday distribution networks will be reconsidered in order to prevent overcharge.

The affected areas included the Universitate and Victoriei squares, Aviatorilor square and Sala Palatului in downtown Bucharest. Power supplies were also affected at the government HQ in the Victoriei Square.
