Former Social Democrat Nicolae Mischie was sentenced on Thursday to four years in jail for abuse in the office and influence trafficking. The former County Council president must also pay some 25,000 euros in legal fees and over 130,000 euros compensations to the denouncer.
Mischie was the first local official to be called by the journalists "a local baron".
Mischie declared for Realitatea TV that the entire trial was a political command and that he is completely innocent. Mischie's lawyers can still appeal the sentence.
