Some of the civil society leaders in Romania formally demanded the Constitutional Court to explain contradictory decision in the files managed by the court. The appeal was made public on Tuesday through an open letter, signed by the Students' League, the Civic Alliance and the December 21, 1989 Organization.

The ruling the letter has in mind regards the recent decision that cases containing both military personnel and civilians should be judged by civil courts. The decision impacts the cases regarding the 1990 miners` mayhem where the main figure is ex-President Ion Iliescu.

The appeal suggests that decisions reflect a certain political influence and prove to be contradictory to the Romanian Constitution or the rule of law.

Moreover, the letter ends in requesting that Court members notify their political color.
