The yearly inflation rate in June was 3.80%, close to the one registered in May (3.81%) according to the National Statistics Institute on Tuesday. Moreover, The Romanian commercial deficit registered a significant increase in the first 2007 quarter.

Compared to the previous month, the inflation rate dropped by 0.50% reaching 0.14% in June. Both food and other merchandise increased with 0.32% and 0.08% while the tariffs in services decreased by 0.09% (air plane tickets, telecomm tariffs).

The first 2007 quarter registered a 64% increase of the commercial deficit as compared to last years’ data. The increase was a direct consequence of the gap between imports (28.6%) and exports (12.7%). Thus, imports amount to 19.34 billion euro while exports to only 11.71 billion euro.
