Primary energy (production and import) and electricity resources decreased by 6% and 5.4% respectively in the past six months as compared to the data registered last year, Romania's National Statistics Institute reports. The trend was due to both lower production and diminished imports.

The main primary energy resources (coal, oil, natural gas) amounted to 16.79 million tons of oil - a 1.06 million ton or 6% decrease as compared to the same period last year.

The evolution was a direct consequence of a 3.9% lower internal production and an 8.8% drop in imports.

Electricity resources totalled 25.81 billion kWh, a decrease of 5.4% as compared to the same period of 2006 as production dropped 5.5% against a 1% boost in imports.

The highest amount of electricity production is obtained in thermal energy plants, namely 64.6% of all production, followed by the hydropower plants with 25.3%.

The total electricity consumption stood at 21.27 billion kWh - up 0.5% as compared to last year.

Electricity exports dropped by 1.08 billion Kwh which means a 42.4% decrease since last year.
