In an exclusive interview to HotNews.ro, Jo Leinen, member of the European Parliament on behalf of the Socialist Group and the President of the Constitutional Affairs Committee, reviewed the main challenges confronting the EU by the end of the German Presidency.

He argues that the future of the EU constitution is uncertain in a Union with increasing centripetal forces. Moreover, he says that without commonly shared objectives nations will fail to integrate towards a common Europe.

Jo Leinen talks in hopeful terms about the last summit and the new amendments and calls for a common voting day in all member countries.

Leinen points to Great Britain and Poland, as two counties which benefit from the EU but fail to return the benefits. The European MP warns that future perils such as climate challenges, terrorism or economic competitors such as India or China can only be overcome as a Union, not as singular states.
