Romanian ex-Justice minister Monica Macovei, ousted from the Romanian government in a major reshuffle this spring, has been appointed anti-graft advisor to Macedonia prime minister Nikola Gruevski, a press release of the Government in Skopje reads. Macovei’s work with Gruevski starts effectively on Monday, according to the document.

The press release describes Macovei as “Romanian Justice Minister in period 2004-2007. Her activities and measures in the fight against corruption and judicial reforms were assessed as crucial in EU's decision for Romania 's accession.

“Prior to her minister's post, Macovei was an activist in the country's civil society, especially in the field of human rights, democratization and political reforms, as well as president of the Romanian Helsinki Committee”.
