The Romanian Central Bank (BNR) will not intervene on the currency market to calm the growth of the national currency, Leu, only in case this would stir major concerns, said the BNR Governor, Mugur Isarescu, quoted by Reuters.

According to Reuters, quoting the MNI agency, Isarescu declared while participating in an event in Zurich that the possibility to intervene still exists.

The leu reached its strongest position in the last 4 and a half years, 3.192 lei per euro. BNR reduced the monetary policy interest rate 1.5%, down to 7.25% during the last year.

The most affected on the market are the exporters, who claim losing some 25 million euros per month for a 2.5 billion euro export volume.
