A "yellow code" extreme heat warning announced by meteorologists two days ago is in full force in Romania today. The code applies to 22 counties in the southern part of the country, including the capital city Bucharest.

Experts argue that in some parts of the country the temperature will reach more than 38 degrees Celsius. The unbearable heat will maintain at night as well, when air temperature will not fall under 20 degrees Celsius.

Medical care in hospitals is barely keeping up with the numerous calls. Minister of Health, Eugen Nicolaescu, asked the Public Health Directions to increase the number of medical persons and extend the working schedule.

On the other hand, due to the extreme drought that affected 34 counties, the government declared state of calamity in agriculture, in more than a half of the Romanian soil.

In the majority of heat-affected cities, local authorities set up fist-aid tents.
