Romanian boxer Lucian Bute defeated Australian boxer of Cameroon origin Sakio Bika in a match that allowed Bute become a challenger for the world IBF title this weekend. Bute is thus entitled to challenge the IBF world champion Alejandro Berrio with a score against Sakio “The Scorpion” Bika of 118-109/118-109/116-111 at Centre Bell, Montreal.

It’s the 20th victory in 20 matches for Bute, 27, but it was also one of the most difficult. “The Scorpion” was more aggressive in the early rounds, but Bute came back in force, convincing the three referees that he’s worth the win.

“I’m glad I have defeated a well prepared rival. In autumn I will have the opportunity to fight for the world title and I want to bring it to Romania”, Bute said after the match.

In autumn, both Bute and Adrian Diaconu (“official challengers”) will fight for diamond belts, a good enough reason for Interbox to propose sponsors in Romania to organize a common gala here.
