The fuss caused by the Internet broadcast of an euphoric Sarkozy managed to "wake up" the French media, where nothing had been written or broadcast before Tuesday.

The fact that the Belgians were "the first to throw the rock", with the RTBF TV station, made the journalists at Liberation, who replied with an exonerating article.

The reaction was qualified by several journalists as a children's "you're the stupid!".

"According to the audio recording, Sarkozy doesn't look drunk. It looks rather like he has to catch his breath, unready, seems to have hiccups (a digestion problem?)", Liberation reads.

Even more, the French daily finds revenge in a questionable way, reminding that a Belgian politician is known for his problems with the alcohol, even publishing links towards a YouTube clip with the politician in "delicate moments".

The TV anchor who made the comment that "Sarkozy seems to have drunk just water", Eric Boever, publicly apologized and wrote on an extremely popular blog that his comment was thought to be malicious, but not insulting".

L Figaro refused to publish any article on the subject, while Le Monde and L'Express simply published the AFP news with Boever's apologies.
