The foreign affairs commissions in the Romanian Parliament approved the candidacy of presidential advisor Teodor Baconschi to take over the seat as Ambassador to Paris on Tuesday.

A career diplomat and a former Ambassador to Vatican and Lisbon, Baconschi last served as state secretary within the Foreign Ministry in Bucharest before taking his new office at the Presidency following a major government reshuffle in spring.

He now serves as advisor to President Traian Basescu for relations with public authorities and the civil society.

Also considered for posts of ambassadors are Ion Valcu, Romania’s former ambassador to Chile now eyeing the Embassy to Argentina, Mihai Florovici for Montenegro and Ionel Nicu Sava for Switzerland.

Romania does not currently have ambassadors to key posts in London, Washington and Rome.
