The European seas are in a serious decline state because of the rapid development of coastal cities and villages, pollution and massive fishing, scientists warn in a report quoted by BBC News.

The document shows that the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea, the Mediterranean Sea and the North-East Atlantic have a dark future in case the damaging actions are not ceased.

The conclusions were reached by a group of 100 researchers in 15 states, who conducted a three-year study on human activities and their impact on the marine ecological system.

In the Black sea, the ecosystem is in collapse because of the humans' lifestyle. The amount of algae developed in the area is enormous and represents a major danger.

In the Mediterranean sea, the biodiversity is compromised because of the fast development of coastal resorts and massive fishing.
