The meeting scheduled for Thursday between the Liberal and the Social Democrat leaders was cancelled. Social Democrats (PSD) decided in a brief session not to participate in the meeting. The Liberal delegation would have been led by the Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu, along with three party leaders, Norica Nicolai, Dan Motreanu and Crin Antonescu.

Liberals waited over an hour for Social Democrats to show up in a discreet location near Bucharest.

Later, Tariceanu was called by the PSD head, Mircea Geoana, who announced him that the PSD members were unhappy with some of Tariceanu's recent statements. Tariceanu declared in an interview on Wednesday the Liberals have nothing to negotiate with the PSD and will make no compromises.

On the other hand, sources say a private meeting in a small group may be held away from the eyes of the press.
