President Traian Basescu met on Wednesday some of the most important leaders of the international Jewish community, one day before the OSCE meeting on discrimination, scheduled to take place on Thursday and Friday in Bucharest.

Basescu ensured his guests that Romania will continue its efforts to promote the study and the commemoration of the Holocaust, especially in schools, a presidency release informs, according to HotNews.ro.

The meeting comes shortly after president Basescu withdrew the national decoration "Romania Star" to the far right leader Corneliu Vadim Tudor.

Tudor was decorated in 2004 by president Ion Iliescu, a gesture that made Nobel Award winner Elie Wiesel to return the medal received also from Iliescu.

Basescu met rabbi Andre Baker, manager of the American Jewish Committee, Stacy Burdett from the Anti-Defamation League, Dan Mariaschin and Dennis Glick, the president and the vice president of B’nai B’rith, as well as Radu Ioanid, manager of the Holocaust Memorial Museum in USA.
