The number of foreign visitors to Romania as recorded at custom points across the country stood at 535,900 in April this year, up 20.1% more than the same month in 2006, a National Statistics Institute press release shows. A majority of them - 58.7% - were citizens of the European Union.

On the other hand, the number of Romanians leaving abroad rose 32.3% in April compared to the same month last year, reaching 883.700. A large majority of them - 81.1%, used road transport to leave the country.

Also in April, arrivals reported in tourism facilities across the country rose by over 20%.
