The Arpechim Pitesti refinery, a critical part of the Romanian oil by-products market, may be shut down for good in case it doesn't make the environmental protection investments required by the Environment Ministry, according to a press release of the official institution.

"The company has six months to put into practice the remaining environmental protection measures. After the six months, the integrated environment authorization will be cancelled", the Environment Ministry release reads.

Oil dealer Petrom, owner of Arpechim, announced it will challenge in court the Ministry's decision to temporarily suspend the environment authorization for the refinery.
