Romanians living in the United States have expressed concern about an article published by New York Sun which they say defames Romania. Various Internet pages used by the Romanian Diaspora were used on Monday to criticize an article initially published in the Sunday Telegraph which describes the initiative of a Romanian village to offer villagers goats instead of social assistance.

The article says that the project of the mayor of Indepententa village, Constanta county in Romania would have each individual in need of social aid receive ten goats instead of money starting September. They would have to milk the goat and earn a leaving by selling dairy products. Should they find a job, they’d have to return the goats to th local council.

According to critics, the article is presenting Romania in a humiliating and depicts the country as a ‘Romanistan’.
