Some 74.355 of Romanians said ‘No’ in the May 19 referendum where they were asked if they agreed to remove President Traian Basescu from office, the latest partial results announced by the Central Electoral Office on Monday morning show. 24.84% of voters answered ‘Yes’ to the same question, at a participation rate of 44.19%.

The announcement came as results from 99.5% voting sections were counted.

Some 8.1 million Romanians from a total of 18.3 million listed voters took part in the Saturday referendum. That means some 2 million people supported the dismissal of the President, while some 6 million voted against it.
