Jose Manuel Barroso, chief of the European Commission, congratulated Traian Basescu upon his return as president of Romania after the referendum on Saturday, after a month of official suspension from his office.

"I hope that this result will enable Romania's progress in reforms, as a full member of the European Union, especially when it comes to Justice and fighting corruption, said Barroso, according to France Presse.

Frattini also reminded that Romania needs a stable political and juridical environment, while all actors on the political stage must work together for the social and economic development of the country.

Markus Ferber - the German EP representing the European Popular Party who wrote a letter about EC activating the Justice safeguarding clauses - said that Romania needs to return to reforms and chose a new governing team.
