75 percent of Romanian voters voted in favor of President Traian Basescu’s return to office in the Saturday referendum that asked them whether they agreed with him being removed from office, partial results presented by the Democratic Party (PD), Basescu’s main political ally, on Saturday night show.

With 93.24% of the votes counted, the results show that the counties of Timis, Sibiu and Covasna had the most votes in favor of Basescu, with 88%, 85% and 84% respectively. The smallest percentage in favor of Basescu was reported in the county of Botosani - 59.81%.

According to a count of already centralized votes, referendum participation stood at an average of 48%.

PD said it would publish its final count on Sunday morning.
