Romanian band Todomondo managed an unlucky place 13 in the Eurovision music contest finals hosted by Helsinki on Saturday evening, which was won eventually by another SE European country, Serbia, with Marija Serifovic’s “Molitva” (Prayer) song. Romania is thus three seats short from qualifying directly in the finals of next year’s Eurovision contest.

Todomondo competed with a mix-language song titled “Liubi, Liubi, I love you”. It entered the competition at 20 and received a total of 84 points from viewers, mostly from Spain (12 points), the Moldovan Republic (12 points), Andorra (10 points), Hungary (8 points), Portugal, Israel and France (7 points).

The Romanian public offered 12 points to Natalia Barbu of Moldova and her song “Fight”.

The 13th place means that the Romanian singer/singers that will attend the next year’s edition of the contest will have to compete in the semifinals.

Organizers of the Helsinki show say some 100 million viewers worldwide watched the 52nd edition of the Eurovision contest. Finland hosted it after Finnish heavy metal band Lordi won the 2007 edition with “Hard Rock Hallelujah”.
