The number of broadband connections to the Internet increased 40% in the second half of 2006, reaching 1.042 million clients at the end of the year, compared to 730,000 in August 2006, an IDC study commanded by Cisco Romania reveals.

The connections were made mainly for domestic use and in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). 84% of the connections are employed by home users, 15.6% by businesses and 0.4% by education / administration institutions.

The main type of connection is cable (50.8% of all home users), but ADSL also seen a 100% growth. LAN stands for 32.2% of all connections, followed by the recently developed DSL (8.8%) and Metro Ethernet. Radio access (FWA) only has 1.1% of the market.
