Tudor Giurgiu, general manager of the public TV station, TVR, resigned on Friday, Hotnews.ro sources say. At the beginning of March, Giurgiu admitted that TVR was facing financial problems and announced a low budget for 2007.

Giurgiu submitted his resignation to the Parliament, attaching an open letter. The general radio-TV tax is expected to grow from 4 to 6 RON (some 1.9 euros), according to Giurgiu. For the past few months, the general manager was under constant pressure, the members of the board officially announcing their lack of support for his policies.
