European Justice Commissioner Franco Frattini has shown concern over how Justice reform in Romania will continue in the context of the political crisis affecting the country.

He told Reuters that he supported Romania’s prosecutor general Daniel Morar and suggested that the continuous reform in the justice sector and the fight against corruption are key elements to prevent Brussels from applying safeguard clauses against Romania.

According to a press release of the Romanian Justice Ministry, the European Commissioner said he trusted new minister Tudor Chiuariu’s capacity to consolidate reform and combat corruption.

“Franco Frattini agreed with the priorities of my term which include: shorter judicial procedures, avoiding overheating the activity of courts and prosecutors as well as a law on free judicial assistance”, Chiuariu is quoted as saying in the Ministry press release.
