President Traian Basescu is supposed to had a discussion with Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu, before historian Adrian Cioroianu was suggested as Foreign Minister, asking him to chose someone else.

The problem with this unveiling is that it comes from the head of the main Opposition party, Social Democrats (PSD), Mircea Geoana.

“Geoana claims he has been “informed by phone” by PM Tariceanu. As a reminder, the former Foreign Minister, Mihai Razvan Ungureanu, was revoked from his seat, Basescu refusing his replacement with Liberal Adrian Cioroianu.

Basescu made it clear: “The Constitution is very specific: the prime minister nominates the Foreign Minister to the president, the president approves the nomination or not. There’s not a problem with Cioroianu, but Romania’s foreign affairs demand someone more experienced”.
