The National Anti-corruption Department (DNA) announced on Monday it may investigate Romanian deputy Dan Ilie Morega, after the media published audio records of a Liberal meeting where the politician was sanctioning Liberal representatives of local public institutions for not collecting enough funds for the governing Liberal Party’s campaign in the coming European elections.
Morega, a Liberal MP who also serves as head of the party branch in Gorj, the county where the case took place, may be investigated for abuse in office. The Liberal leadership decided last week to suspend Morega for a month and announced a party inquiry over charges related to the funding of the electoral campaign.
