Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu suggested on Saturday that the elections for the European Parliament, scheduled for May 13th, should be postponed.

"As prime minister, I can't allow the European elections to depend on the political calculus of one or another", said Tariceanu in a press conference. In supporting his suggestion, Tariceanu shown that the political parties ignored his appeal for an European campaign, preferring to continue the underground political games.

"Although the President organized the political parties' consultations on the uninominal vote referendum, they didn’t reach any common solution. President Basescu's statements lead us to believe that the referendum may still take place, and even on the EP elections day", said Tariceanu.

His suggestion will be discusses and probably approved in a special session on Monday.
