Former tennis glory Ion Tiriac ranked 840th in the Forbes top of world’s richest people, with a wealth estimated at 1.1 billion dollars. It is for the first time a Romanian qualifies for this ranking.

Involved in banking and insurance business, he also holds significant stock in companies with good quota on the international stock exchanges, also playing on the car dealing market.

Tiriac started building his wealth in Germany, where he fled from the Communist regime, becoming one of the best tennis trainers worldwide. After 1989, he returned to Romania, where he had a series of profitable businesses.

Extremely influent in high politics, Tiriac has connections with some of Europe’s most important businessmen.

He is also known for the hunting parties attended to by top politicians and businessmen.
