National Anti-corruption Department (DNA) prosecutors have taken to court Democratic Party-PD deputy Stelian Dutu for abuse in office against public interests. According to a DNA press release, Dutu is suspected of ill-intentions in the case where 3.3 million euro were lost by a local public institution in the county of Constanta.

Dutu, who used to head the Constanta District Council, is accused of intentionally dodging his duties when he served in this position between 1998-2004, in relation to the co-funding of a 17 million USD loan provided by the EBRD to the water management authority in Constnata.

According to the DNA, the 3.3 million euro accounted for interests and penalties the Council was forced to pay according to contractual terms.
