The two workers detained by the American military for alleged acts of espionage were freed on Thursday, sources in the Presidential Administration informed, soon confirmed by officials in the Foreign Ministry. The workers, first accused of taking pictures and filming a water plant in Iraq, were delivered to the Romanian embassy in Baghdad.

Foreign Ministry Officials said that "the two are currently at the embassy and formalities were open to send them home as soon as possible. The release of the workers could be a result of the discreet visit the Romanian Defense Minister recently made to Washington.

Ilie Nelu (41) and Adrian Ganceanu (39) were arrested in October 2006.
